Juicing Performance

Breville Juice Fountain 800jexl Elite StillThe Juice Fountain Elite, being a centrifugal juicer has some limitations when it comes to versatility.  It does not juice small soft berries, leafy greens and wheat grass very well.  However, there are workarounds for this as described in our complete review here that describes how you can juice soft berries, wheatgrass, and leafy greens using the Juice Fountain Elite.

What it lacks in versatility the Juice Fountain Elite makes up for in speed and convenience.  The fast spinning cutting disc is able to make full glass of juice in seconds.  There is hardly any need to chop or do very much prep work.  If for example you have a whole pineapple, just cut it a few times with the rind still on and feed it through the 3″ wide feed chute.

It needs to be said that some oxidation is introduced into the juicing process by the fast motion.  This is evident in the juice’s frothiness.  To be sure you are drinking high nutrient juice, be sure to drink the juice you make immediately after it is juiced.

Hurom Slow JuicerThe Hurom Slow Juicer is versatile and process kale, leafy greens, wheat grass and berries flawlessly.  It also is extremely efficient because it uses a crushing masticating system.  The pulp that is ejected from the machine should be very dry as it exits.

Clean up is also slightly easier because the mesh filter basket in the Juice Fountain Elite does require more attention.  Also centrifugal juicers sling pulp violently.  While it is contained within the unit it does go everywhere.  The Hurom unit neatly ejects pulp into a separate container.  The Juice Fountain Elite does have a pulp container as well, but pulp is not ejected efficiently.  Instead it builds up inside the juice collector though it is easy enough to clean out.

Juicing enthusiasts usually insist on a slow “cold-pressed” juicing process.  This is because it introduces less oxidation.  Oxidation is the same process that turns an apple brown after it is exposed to the air.  Oxidation degrades the nutritional value of juice.  This is the same reason that anti-oxidants are touted as important nutrients.  The juice quality of the Hurom probably is better.  However, the oxidation problem can be overcome simply by drinking juice immediately after it is produced.

Breville originally gained its popularity in Australia, and in the 1980’s, brought their business to the United States. Breville is a very saavy company when it comes to marketing their product.  To be sure, they do make excellent juicers.  Hardcore juicing enthusiasts usually opt for a masticating juicer, but Brevile still delivers a very well made device.

The Hurom Company was founded in Europe, but goes by the name Roland Products in North America. Established in 1989, they have been providing the public with fine European cookware and appliances for over 20 years. They pride themselves on providing patrons with superior customer service.
