Stand Mixers

Mixers are domestic kitchen appliances that were invented to reduce manual labor involved in folding, mixing and beating ingredients. The first mixers were hand-cranked.

Stand mixers are sturdier than their handheld counterparts and are used in nearly every commercial business that makes bread or bread products.  A typical hoem stand mixer has a bown between 3 to 7 quarts and weighs 15 to 30 pounds.  Usually home mixers include a wire whip, a flat beater, and dough hook.

Stand Mixers are either Spiral or Planetary.  Spiral agitator attachment in a spiral mixer remains stationary off center in the bowl while the bowl itself rotates.  Planetary action stand mixers, such as the KitchenAid move the action of the agitotor in an orbit around the bowl whil the bowl itself remains stationary.  It has been said that spiral mixers are better for mixing dough and planetary mixers are btter for whipping and blending.
